BICENTENNIAL MUSEUM

The District Museum building was constructed with a grant from the Federal Government the Bicentennial Year of 1988. This building is connected to the cottage, by a pathway to the southern entrance which opens onto a mezzanine floor where there are displays about the First Nation Yaegl people; Maclean’s Scottish heritage; the boating industry; and, historical hospital and barber shop sections. On the ground floor, visitors can view large items such as sulkies, drays, cane carts, farm equipment and artefacts from the area. The two floors are connected by an internal stairway. A mural by Linda El Mir, depicting the cane industry, adds to the ambience. Downstairs a storage room has archivally stored photos and documents as well as a work area which allows our volunteers to complete conservation and repair work
